W.D.M Ltd | Talking road network challenges and sustainability on Sky TV

W.D.M.Limited is backing the Daily Mail campaign to end the plague of potholes and will be presenting a solution to the problem on Sky TV this weekend.
Unfortunately, the funding for general maintenance made available to local authorities has been falling in real terms for some decades – as a result potholes, which are an indication of the road asset’s failure, are becoming an all too common issue.
A whole industry has grown up around patching these potholes, but there is a much better way – simply maintain the road surface in a cost-effective and timely way to stop them from appearing in the first place.
In a Sky TV Business programme, WDM explains how using available technology and data, already in the public arena, can reverse the trend, deliver higher levels of sustainability and reduce carbon emissions.
The programme was first broadcast a few weeks ago (ExecutiveTV – Road Networks – Challenges and Sustainability), but is being repeated on 12 March.
Road Networks – Challenges and Sustainability
The UK’s road networks are vital to the way we live, work and do business with one another. Our roads and highways are both crucial to economic development and enable important social benefits, such as access to employment, social, health and education services.
Due to this crucial role in the nation’s life, it is also important to keep them in good condition, despite the wear and tear of continuous use. In fact, it has been estimated that poor quality road surfaces cause hundreds of accidents a year. Good road maintenance can also help reduce the nation’s carbon footprint by promoting an efficient ride and reducing major roadworks.
Advances in road safety maintenance techniques and digital technologies mean that a new industry term has been coined, “Predictive Maintenance”. This refers to the way that technology is being used to measure the quality and integrity of a road surface. This is typically done using specially designed vehicles to monitor roads and detect problems before they happen.
These challenges and the hi tech equipment used to overcome them are the subject of Executive TV’s latest in depth programme, “Road Networks – Challenges and Sustainability”. Featured in the documentary will be WDM Ltd.
WDM Ltd are a highway asset management solution specialist committed to helping improve road safety and saving lives. Using cutting – edge road condition monitoring equipment, WDM is recognised as a world leader in road condition surveying and enhancing road safety whilst also working towards greater sustainability.
“Road Networks -Challenges and Sustainability” will be broadcast on Sunday 12th March @ 10.00 (am) on SKY digital channel 181.
