WDM – WDM Sets a New Build-Time Record with S19 Vehicle

W.D.M. Limited, manufacturer of highly specialised surveying equipment and highways surveying services, has successfully completed the first Midi-SCRIM®, the newest model of its fleet of surveying vehicles.
WDM is a leader in SCRIM® collected continuous pavement friction measurement, data analysis, and friction insights to inform safety strategy. With over 55 years’ experience delivering insights using SCRIM® technology in the UK, the company provides local and national highways authorities with the capabilities to make data-led decisions that enhance road safety, optimise maintenance investments, and extend asset lifespan.

The Midi SCRIM® is a smaller, more efficient version of the revolutionary SCRIM® machine, designed to measure road surface friction, informing pavement management and maintenance programmes. SCRIM® has been pivotal in improving road safety globally for over 55 years, informing skid strategies with accurate, robust and repeatable data collection.
The new midi SCRIM® passed its IVA tests in April, and is scheduled to start work surveying the roads this summer, alongside the company’s existing SCRIM® and mini-SCRIM® machines.
While the vehicle is not fully electric, it meets the latest Euro emissions standards, making it significantly cleaner and more efficient than earlier models.
Crucially, it is fully compliant with all Low Emission Zones, reflecting WDM’s commitment to a more sustainable, future-ready fleet. The smaller size allows it to move seamlessly around all classifications of roads as well as unclassified roadway, while an increased water tank ensures it can be run as cost-effective as possible, with a bigger capacity for continuous measurement than the mini SCRIM®.
