Acklea | Vehicle mounted MLC sign boards
Objective number one: safety. That’s the Acklea mantra when it comes to the building of any product. With safety the absolute paramount factor to consider, Acklea continues to innovate when it comes to protecting road workers and road users alike.
The Acklea vehicle mounted sign board has been designed and built by those with direct experience of working in live traffic.
As a result, the ultimate objectives, firstly, that the vehicle requires enhanced safety features, and secondly that products must be operator friendly have both been achieved.
Mobile lane traffic management can be used to temporarily close lanes to facilitate safe road works, temporary closures or incident management, whilst keeping the traffic flowing as freely as possible.
Optimising safety, road space and work efficiency whilst minimising road user congestion, delay and inconvenience are all key aims of mobile works.
The diagram below shows the number of vehicles typically used for mobile or moving traffic management used on a dual carriageway with a hard shoulder, which could be implemented to protect a road sweeper or gulley sucker in operation.
Acklea Mobile Lane Closure Boards: The details
Acklea’s hydraulic system allows the vehicle operator to raise and lower the sign board from within the cab, as well as whilst the vehicle is on the move. Full cab control ensures the operator’s safety, avoiding the need to get out of the vehicle into live traffic to adjust the sign board, as well as being more efficient when it comes to saving time.
The Acklea vehicle mounted sign board can also be mounted and de-mounted in minutes, with no more awkward reversing. Easily changeable wicket boards also allow for the lane closure boards to be fitted from ground level – a much safer process that eradicates any climbing required by the operator.
These MLC Boards can either be trailer mounted or demountable, typically carried by 3.5T tippers or drop sides.
Innovate and Evolve
Moving forward, all MLC boards Acklea have manufactured in the past are now available in the remote operation system, so they can be fitted to any vehicle, and don’t need to be wired in.
MLC boards from Acklea now mean that there is no need for a driver to exit a vehicle and enter a more dangerous environment.
Andy Dougan of Acklea told us:
“Being able to prevent a vehicle driver from needing to step into live traffic is a huge advancement when it comes to road worker safety, and safety is where this innovative advancement was born.
“Our customers now know their own people are safer when they take an Acklea MLC Board to site.”
Acklea MLCs are available as a complete purchase, parts or rental.
